He can't be more careful
So care can't be the answer
Once there was a flailing otter
and he sailed
Once there was a sailing otter
and it gailed
Once there was a trailing otter
and he failed
Once there was a failing otter
and it failed

The Big Dig

The man who drank a pot of coffee falls asleep
The boy who set his mind and didn't make it thinks:
What does it take?
Have I done wrong?
Move the barrows on the line and push them up the hills
onto the lawn
Spades and chisels chip away the bed of earth
from those who don't belong
What does it take?
Have I done wrong?
Sweep the halls and wrap the ladder up in chains,
it's finished for the day
Industry is deafening yet still they carry on
like it's okay

Endeavour
04:08

We sail our ship along the coast
Others try to beat us, but at most
we'll be a day or two behind
The leak is getting bigger,
and supplies are running low,
and the crew is getting tired.
They work hard but after months at sea
they're tired
The villagers who live ashore
refuse to even trade us anymore
And since the others got here first,
they left a bad impression
and what's worse, we have no food
and the crew is getting sick.
They work hard but after months at sea
they're sick
And all I know
is that when I'm finally home
they'll rewrite all I wrote
All I know
is when there's no new place to go
they'll rewrite all I wrote
Another day adrift at sea
with nothing but our ragged company.
My countrymen forget the cause;
they question my intentions
but to God I only say
I could act no other way.
And he knows it's for Endeavour
that I pray
But all I know
is that when I'm finally home
they'll rewrite all I wrote
All I know
is when there's no place new to go
they'll rewrite all I wrote
It all goes up in smoke

Get in the car
we're going to Red Star
Talk about that
week we had in New York
Maybe we'll find
a new place right next door
I've been told
you just gotta get the hell out
Out to sea
the world's great aquarium
Still where you are?
Don't you worry
Add one more week
to spend in Japan
Maybe Brunei
or Bali, Hawaii
I've been told
you just gotta get the hell out
Out to sea
the world's great aquarium
And I've been keen
about the benefits of walking out
Out to eat
the best wet and wild cuisine

Skeleton in Cupboard

Back at twelve
no one's home
Go to sleep
on your feathers...
Start to feel
adventurous
Take a walk
down the street
The ravine up ahead...
Bullets in the legs; you cry for help,
wishing you could say what it's like
Another secret lost to them
If only you could tell them what it's like
Looking back and all you see are caricatures
Sky is flashing, lie and let it pass
Stars shining in wet grass
Please won't you tell me what it's like?

Landscape of Animals
04:44
|
|
||
It's hot in the sun
and the pavement burns right through
to the soles
But where else can we go
that's a home just for us?
Walk to my friend's
and it's minutes of silence
and of cold
But the moment we enter
we leave it behind
There is a certain appeal
An unexpected ideal
The cast of the evening light
Like purple laid onto white
There's still a certain appeal
An unexpected ideal
High and away
All the little ones hide up
in their holes
But we try to imagine
a world for us all
Pour in the earth
And indulge in the flavours
of the core
And the landscape of animals
like you and me
